Sides of the War
Lincoln and the Union utilized the telegraph much more than the Confederates did, adding an extreme advantage in communication for the Union. The Confederacy spent alot of time attempting to disconnect the Union's unified telegraph system. The Union used the telegraph to win the war, while the Confederacy would have had a better chance if they had looked into the telegraph more. The Confederacy still did use the telegraph, just not to the extent that the Union did.
After a battle took place, the Union was able to communicate information such as death toll and the victor of the battle, to each other. They also communicated things such as improvable tactics and orders to troops on the front lines. The officers at the battlefield and the president at the White House were able to have a rapid conversation, and the president could consult his advisers while receiving information from the front lines.
